Upwell Health Centre

01945 773 671

Upwell Health Centre was opened in 1977 and has been growing ever since. Originally a 2 doctor practice, it is currently the second biggest practice in West Norfolk. Centered on the villages of Upwell and Outwell, the Upwell Health Centre practice area covers over 180 square miles encompassing the villages of Elm, Emneth, Friday Bridge, Middle Drove, Three Holes, Welney, Christchurch, Barroway Drove, Nordelph, Coldham and parts of Marshland St James (as far up as St.John’s Fen End village sign).

Upwell Health Centre is officially classed as a rural, dispensing, teaching practice. The practice became a training practice in the early 1990s and there is usually a GP trainee working at the surgery. GP trainees are fully qualified doctors training to be GPs. Their presence at a practice is an indicator of the quality of a practice, as training practices have to maintain higher standards than regular GP surgeries. The practice is currently a member of the Norfolk & Waveney Practice Based Commissioning Consortium and is active in the preparation for the concept of GP commissioning.

There is an on site pharmacy, the Welle Ltd Pharmacy, where patients can get their prescriptions dispensed while visiting the doctor. With the exception of Saturday morning and early morning and late evening surgeries, the pharmacy is open when the doctors are consulting. Please note, the pharmacy is closed lunchtimes between 12:00-14:00. For more information about medication, please visit our Prescriptions page.

As well as normal general practice and practice staff we have visiting mental health practitioners, CBT therapists, an anti-coagulation monitoring service, a chiropodist, an osteopath, a dentist and a physiotherapist on site.

All registered patients have a NamedGP who will have overall responsibility for the care and support that our surgery provides to them.
